  • Richard Corrigan’s Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill
  • Delightfully individual bedrooms
  • Most exclusive Dublin city address.

Renowned Irish Chef, ten unique bedrooms, one of Dublin’s finest restaurants and the coolest address in town – how many great reasons do you need to book into Bentley’s?
Although it opened in mid 2008, we only got around to visiting recently and we found it lively, luxurious and as popular as ever. Bentley’s stands on the site of a late 17th century house and was once the home of the Earl of Shelbourne.

ACCOMMODATION AT BENTLEY’S TOWNHOUSE

Ten unique bedrooms, and we had the one on the very top of the house looking out over St. Stephen’s Green. For a historic townhouse we had every comfort – luxury bed linen, robes and toiletries. Space and super power shower, tasteful décor, hot radiators and windows that open for fresh air. We were comfortably ensconced in a house full of character and charm and we had the best shops and atmosphere in the city on our doorstep.

AVIATOR LOUNGE AT BENTLEY’S

For a boutique townhouse hotel, Bentley’s has all the essentials including a very cool cocktail bar. The Aviator Lounge has an intimate and funky feel, really comfortable chairs, a perfect little bar, friendly staff, a clever cocktail menu and four large model aircraft suspended from the corners of the ceiling! We opted for a Champagne Cocktail and a White Lady and sat sipping these as we checked out the tempting menu for Bentleys Oyster Bar & Grill downstairs.

RICHARD CORRIGAN

He is now one of Ireland’s most well-known chefs renowned for his passion for natural, healthy, seasonal and locally produced foods. Born in Co. Meath in 1964, Richard Corrigan grew up on a farm and at 17 years of age he headed for Holland and worked in Michelin starred restaurants there. He moved to London and worked in several top establishments there including the Meridian Hotel in Piccadilly. He bought the Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill in London in 2005 where his food became famous for its ‘uncluttered integrity and honest flavours’ and where he picked up his second Michelin star.

BENTLEY’S OYSTER BAR & GRILL

We had heard that this was one of Dublin’s best restaurants, and we were already excited by the menu. We were shown to a lovely table in the centre of the long restaurant from where we had a bird’s eye view of everything. Although it was a mid-week night, all the tables were full for the whole evening and the white-jacketed waiters were constantly busy. As you might expect, there is a large selection of oysters from the Oyster Bar including Galway Natives, Oysters Rockefeller, Tempura of Oysters and Shellfish Platter. On top of that there are thirteen starters to choose from, so decisions were going to be very difficult. Eventually we opted for Pan-fried Scallops (by far the biggest juiciest scallops I have ever experienced) and Battered Salt Chilli Prawns which were just divine. We had thirteen main courses to choose from eight of which were fish and included the famous Bentley’s Fish Pie which is worthy of a second visit on its own as word of this had reached me some time ago and I am a serious fan of a good fish pie. Veal, Pork, Steak, Chicken and Venison made up the other dishes. I opted for the Wild Halibut with Prawn Colcannon & Samphire eventually, as a wild catch is impossible to resist. Our other dish of choice was the Roast Venison which was totally seasonal and succulent and served with a Mulled Wine Jus. We couldn’t resist ordering a side of some Hand Cut Chips, just because we knew they were going to be perfect!

The wine list takes you around the world and the descriptions, divisions and categories are all spot-on for varieties and styles. There is access to all price ranges and preferences. We decided on a fabulous Rioja Urbina Crianza which perfectly matched our food choices.

Service at Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill is faultless. The atmosphere is wonderful and makes for a really special meal out. In straightened times like these, it is heartening to see that real value is not down to price alone but to quality and service and there is certainly plenty of that at Bentley’s. We loved every morsel of the food we had, and even left room for desserts which all came with an individual dessert drink recommendation. There are so many tempting dishes on the menu that we will certainly be back again soon and it is great to see that exceptionally well priced pre-dinner and set lunch menus are available.

If you have a love for great food, this is the place to come. If you like unique bespoke comfort, this is the place to stay. Very highly recommended by Hotel Reviews Ireland.
