Fitzgerald's Woodlands House

Why Stay Here?

    • Family Friendly Hotel with excellent food.
    • Fabulous Pampering Revas Spa.
    • Peaceful picturesque setting in Adare Village.

Now a four star hotel, Fitzgerald's Woodlands Hotel & Spa is going from strength to strength. It is very unusual to find a hotel that is both family run, family friendly, and also home to a deluxe spa! I found the Fitzgerald’s Woodlands House Hotel  to be quite unique in what it offered to its guests, and certainly worthy of a strong Hotel Reviews Ireland recommendation. Nestled in 40 acres of landscaped gardens just outside the village of Adare, the approach to the hotel was impressive. As I drove up the tree-lined driveway the birds were singing, ducking and diving, and guests were sitting outside in the sunshine enjoying afternoon tea. There was ample parking with no long walk to the reception and first impressions were very positive.

ACCOMMODATION AT WOODLANDS HOUSE HOTEL

My bedroom was bright, spacious and contemporary, with all corporate and comfort details included. Very comfortable bed with superior quality linen, robe and slippers, fast free WiFi, Nespresso Coffee Machine, working area, lounge area, smart TV and bottled water. The bathroom was perfect with a great pressure shower, bath and lots of fluffy towels and good mirrors.  I also liked the fact that my room was walking distance from the reception area, the leisure centre, the Spa and the dining rooms and bar. The new corporate rooms are a great addition to original standard and family rooms and for a solo traveller who is both working and looking to relax, they tick all the boxes.

 FIELDINGS OF ADARE

The newly refurbished hotel includes an excellent stand-alone restaurant, Fieldings of Adare.  Timmy Macs is still open for all-day and evening food, and The Brennan Room is available for private parties and special functions.
Fieldings of Adare is taking the dining experience up a notch or two, and I was impressed with the use of local suppliers and ingredients, seasonal dishes, and creative dishes.  The dining room is lovely - very retro, comfortable, well appointed with lots of mirrors and calm colours.
The menu was certainly tempting, and it was reassuring to see local supplier details given for all products.  How sweet to start with a Kir Royal, Prosecco or Cosmopolitan before you get down to choosing your courses!  Exceptional home-made breads arrived at the table, and the brown bread was so good that I took a loaf home with me the following morning!  I started with a very lovely Baked Smoked haddock topped with a poached free range egg, and it was delicious and perfectly balanced and presented.  There was also a Fieldings Artisan Platter on offer, which would delight gourmet meat lovers.  From the main courses I opted for a succulent rump of Limerick lamb, cooked perfectly pink as requested, with the mint jus coming in a separate ramekin and a tasty butternut squash risotto.  Other choices included Angus Beef Sirloin, pan fried Whiting, Supreme of Chicken and a vegetarian dish of Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli.

It was an interesting menu with good choices and well priced, so something for everybody is available.  Service was friendly and attentive, and the dining room itself really is exceptionally comfortable.  From the carefully chosen wine list, I opted for a couple of glasses of Pinot Noir which was a perfect foil for both my haddock and lamb.

TIMMY MACS

For a midweek or more casual dining experience, the traditional ambiance of Timmy Macs is the job.  I ate there recently and was really pleased to experience the  new menu offerings with an even greater range of choice than previously.  In fact, I counted the number of choices and there were no less than 13 in the starter section, and 16 main courses as well as 3 pizza choices.  With a clientele that consisted of families, couples, singles, groups of friends and ages that ranged from young children to the quite elderly - they really do offer something for everybody!

I was very pleased to see all suppliers and producers listed on the back of the menu together with information about the family/company behind the products. There were plenty of local suppliers there too, which is another good point.  Healthy food gets a good  look in amid the more robust fare, and I enjoyed the Rainbow Superfood Salad which you can have as either starter or main.  Catch of the day was roasted monkfish wrapped in streaky bacon with asparagus, herb potato and lemon aioli.  This sounded too good to resist and with a glass of Chardonay from the good list of wines by the glass, this was more than satisfying.  Desserts sounded tempting, and a Citrus Lemon Tart with Marinated Strawberries was a perfect finish to the meal.  Service was friendly and efficient, and the restaurant was buzzing.

REVAS SPA

Now here’s the thing about spas. As the man said a spa is like a car, it includes everything form a Mini to a Mercedes – how true that is! A few small beauty rooms does not a spa make, yet some hotels seems to think they can get away with that. Not so at Woodlands House Hotel. Revas is the real-deal, a fabulous luxury spa with a South Pacific feel; tastefully designed Thermal Suite; cocooning relaxation area; large outdoor Jacuzzi; couples treatments rooms and a full menu of spa and pampering treatments. The spa area is located away from the main hotel, but you can access it through corridors past the Leisure Centre and so can visit in your robe from your room. I opted for a wonderfully holistic and relaxing exfoliating treatment with a hot stone back massage, which was the treatment of the month, and very good value indeed..  This exotic treatment included a nurishing coconut exfoliation, moisturising massage and a treat for the feet.  It was exceptionally relaxing, and I felt totally de-stressed and nourished as I spent time cocooned in my relaxation cubicle afterwards.

I really appreciated the design and mooted colours of the Spa ambiance. With eighteen treatment rooms and spacious reception, relaxation and treatment areas, Revas Spa is a world away from the busy hotel, yet is ideal for couples, girly groups and also a perfect compliment for the adults in the family!  I also liked that Revas Spa offers a full range of beauty treatments, and was interested to learn that they offer hen party spa packages - a wonderful for the girls to relax and bond prior to the big day.
Woodlands is a great little hotel, one that knows and understands its guests and delivers on all levels.
This carries a strong Hotel Reviews Ireland recommendation.
