Kenmare Bay Hotel & Resort

Why Stay Here?

  • Family Friendly and popular Wedding Hotel
  • Lovely location on the Ring of Kerry.
  • Very good food, facilities & friendly service.

Kenmare in County Kerry enjoys a great reputation as a top destination for the discerning tourist and it is one of the world's best places to retire to. It has often been called the real gourmet capital of Ireland; it is a favourite town for national and international celebrities; it is loved by the locals; has been the setting for several movies; and enjoys unrivaled scenery and activities. And what is really great is that it is home to a lovely hotel enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. It is perfect for social events, dining and leisure and special occasions and of course it is an award-winning Wedding Hotel.

I had a really nice superior bedroom, spacious and elegant with views over the mountains and hills to the west of Kenmare town. Contemporary decor followed me from the reception area through the corridors to my comfortable room. All boxes ticked here: windows that open, tea & coffee facilities, fluffy towels, separate bath and shower, mirrors, iron, desk area and most importantly, good lighting. It was a lovely room and I quickly settled in.

For families, groups of friends and those who like that bit of independence, there are other accommodation options available at Kenmare Bay Hotel. Tastefully designed holiday homes and secluded lodges are particularly comfortable and of course the hotel facilities - restaurants, bar, leisure centre and beauty rooms - are on the doorstep. Just behind them is a track leading into the centre of Kenmare town, which is a pleasant four minutes walk away. I checked it out before breakfast and met just one jogger as I enjoyed the early morning bird song and Kerry sunshine.

We were not surprised to learn that this is an award-winning Wedding Hotel. The new banqueting suite (August 2018) is just stunning and makes full use of the views and bespoke lighting system and decor, they are licensed for Civil Ceremonies, the staff could not be friendlier and the location is fabulous. They also offer great value wedding packages, so well worth checking out if you are planning your big day.

The Bay is a large bright and well appointed dining room to the side of the reception. We had a window-side table for two, very good service and an excellent menu. There were ten starters and twelve main courses to choose from including plenty of local seafood and the day's market specialities. I was drawn to both the Panko Calamari and the Torpedo Tiger Prawnsand was delighted when offered a half-and-half of each as my starter plate! They were perfectly cooked with a light hand and tasted really fresh. Our other starter was 'Daniel's Secret Recipe Chicken Liver Parfait' - Daniel O'Hanlon being the Executive Chef - also a hit while other choices included Mussels, Barbary Duck Breast, Chowder, Goat's Cheese and Bruschettas.

Plenty of options with the main courses also with Salmon, Monkfish and Seabass for fish lovers, and Duck Fillet, Venison, Lamb Shank, Chicken and Steaks along with vegetarian options also on offer. The A La Carte has a small supplement on some dishes for those on an inclusive package and a well chosen wine list includes several wines in their "Cellar Selection" along with a good range priced under €30 We shared a lovely Pear and Almond Tartlet dessert, noting that all desserts are made in-house while there in an Artisan Cheeseboard that we would have tried had we still had room! Altogether it was a lovely dining experience, and breakfast the next morning, also in The Bay, was particularly good.

The leisure centre is popular with both children and adults and when I went to check out the gym I saw several adults getting a few lengths in the pool before breakfast. I was really impressed with the very well equiped gym and the helpful and friendly staff working there who offered very professional assistance. I really enjoyed my workout there, and felt ready for breakfast myself afterwards!

The previous day I had an hour long tension releasing Hot Stone Massage at BAY BEAUTY where they offer a very wide range of treatments from facials, body and holistic treatments, luxury packages, manicures, pedicures, waxing and tanning. Trish, my therapist had a very professional and intuitive approach and my massage was equal to any I have enjoyed in some of the country's top Spas. Treatments are available for both men and women and the treatment rooms like the gym and leisure centre are easily accessed by the elevator from your room. Like all the facilities at this charming hotel, design and access is particularly well thought-out and of a very high standard. There is a lot to like about this hotel, and it comes highly recommended by Hotel Reviews Ireland.
