Springfort Hall Country House Hotel

Why Stay Here?

  • Blissfully peaceful rural setting.
  • Excellent food and gourmet specialities.
  • Luxury and comfort and lots of extras.

First impressions on driving up to Springfort Hall Country House Hotel are feelings of wanting to own this house.  The winding driveway brings you through meadows with ponies enjoying the sunshine, mature trees line the road as you approach the front gardens and you park conveniently with ample space beside the house behind some trees.  The sun shone the day I visited recently to complete this rustic ambiance, and it was amazing to realize that the location is just ten minutes drive from Mallow Train Station. What a great location for a wedding, I thought.  Equally perfect for a corporate conference or think-in, as I discovered that despite the thick walls of the old house, they have super fast WiFi throughout the whole hotel. This was looking more and more like my kind of place I thought as I entered through the thick wooden door and was met with such friendliness and efficiency and then I went on to discover my lovely bedroom.

I loved my bedroom.  It was spacious and filled with tasteful antique furniture, had large windows that opened, beautiful view, the most comfortable bed I have slept in for a long time, and it had a Nespresso Machine!  This was such a great touch, I adore this coffee!  So I had plenty of desk room to work away and complimentary WiFi on both my phone and laptop.  But most of all it was so quiet.  It was the most fantastically peaceful setting, and with the crisp luxury linen and that amazing bed, I had the very best sleep.  For people traveling for either work or pleasure, it is so important to be able to sleep soundly in your hotel bed as a bad night's sleep will ruin the following day.

I was not surprised to learn that Springfort Hall Country House Hotel has quite a gourmet reputation as it has it's own speciality food shop and cafe on the main street in nearby Mallow town.  All of the goodies on offer - breads, cakes, truffles, smoked salmon, chutneys etc. - are either made in the award winning kitchen in Springfort Hall Hotel or sourced locally from the finest Irish producers.  This ethos of using only the best ingredients is evident in the dishes on offer in the restaurant and bar at the hotel.  Open seven days a week serving lunch and dinner, and also offering outside catering, it is a gourmet destination for locals and visitors alike.  I ate dinner in the Baltydaniel Bar, where the Lime Tree Restaurant Menu was also on offer and where I also had breakfast the following morning.  It is a very comfortable light-filled room where service was friendly and helpful, and I decided to go with the recommended Feather Blade of Hereford Beef, which seems to be something of a house speciality.  I was not surprised at its popularity, a generous portion on a bed of creamy mash served with the delicious braising juices, it was melt-in-the-mouth.

I started with a lovely dish of Prawn Pakora - buttered prawns with raita served on a raw salad.  This would make a lovely light lunch dish - exactly what a good starter should be.  I was delighted to see that a good range of wines by the glass were on offer, no dreaded quarter bottles here!

Breakfast next morning was a very pleasant leisurely affair, I was handed the paper with the menu, my hot food was cooked to order, and the cold buffet spread included Kilner Jars of creamy yoghurt and fruit compot with a sprinkling of granola -delicious!  Good food is key to any hotel visit, and we expect the best in our Irish Country House Hotels.  With great local produce and dedicated chefs, this is where we find the best food is Ireland is served.  Springfort-Hall is certainly within that select grouping.  As I drove away I was delighted to have discovered another real gem, and I will certainly revisit.  Highly recommended by Hotel Reviews Ireland.
