There is some optimism creeping into the Irish Tourism Sector in recent weeks - marking a big change since 2008 when the industry went into freefall. Visitor numbers are up on the first half of this year compared to 2010. What is this being put down to? Obviously the two high profile visits of Queen Elizabeth and President Obama have begun to impact on enquiries and visitors from the UK and the US, although how good this will prove to be, only time will tell as the year progresses. Certainly the increase in the amount of Irish people holidaying at home, the sunny weather in April and the absance of the the ash cloud problems of last year have helped initially. Will 2011 be the year that the Irish Tourist Industry gets up off its knees? |
