Parsley, sage, rosemary, yes all kinds of herbs and treats and tasty dishes and wonderful wines and great dinners can be purchased there. From the original store in Morehampton Road, to the newer ones in Baggot Street, Stillorgan and Greystones, Donnybrook Fair is devoted to food. Think the best of Irish and international ingredients and brands, think Irish Farmhouse Cheeses, meats, salads, sauces and salsas, oils, veggies and breads and all the lovely things that you like to fill your fridge and cupboards with. Then think of ready-made meals prepared by Head Chef Ben Anderson that you can take home and pretend you made yourself. Then think of the Cookery School where you can actually learn to make these delicious dishes yourself. Finally, think of a cool ambiance where you can enjoy all this great food, perfectly presented in an intimate and friendly environment? The Restaurant @ Donnybrook Fair, upstairs at Morehampton Road, was a great discovery recently when we went along for an early dinner on Sunday night. First thing I liked was that there was a very good value menu on offer, three courses for just €20 available onTuesday evenings, and called "Neighbourhood Nights". The A La Carte menu is also available and with nine different choices for each course. There were three of us eating, and while two of us had a starter and main course each, our other friend was captivated by the starter menu, and ate solely from that! She started with the Goats Cheese and red wine poached pear, and followed with two starters together, the New Season Green & White Asparagus with Hollandaise sauce and the Chicken Liver Parfait. What a tasty meal, she announced, well satisfied with each morsel. I began with some very crispy Thai fish Cakes with an Asian dressing and a small salad of sweet & sour cucumber and fennel, and our other diner opted for the Pan-Fried Red Chilli and Coriander Prawns. |
