PJ'S RESTAURANT, FITZPATRICKS HOTEL, Killiney, Co. Dublin

Having enjoyed many visits to this popular hotel on the Dublin's South-side over the years, we did not realize until recently that they do an amazingly good Sunday Brunch. We took ourselves off there lately to check it out, and quite honestly it was one of the best Sunday Brunch experiences we have ever come accross. The buffet is just groaning with delights, you could eat your fill from that table alone. However there are all the hot dishes too, and of course the desserts are to-die-for. So, where to start?
We were shown to our table and given a glass of champagne to put us in the mood. It was 1.30 on a sunny Sunday afternoon. There is also a full wine list, and we decided to have some Merlot/Malbec to celebrate the occassion. The total cost of €29.50 covers all food and a glass of bubbly, and proved to represent excellent value. I could have happily eaten from the starters table alone, with a fabulous choice of salads, Spicy Chicken, whole Prawns, Spanish Meats, Feta Cheese, Noodles and some fresh home-made breads.
There were two great soups to choose from, and we had just a little taste of those, my favourite being the tomato and red pepper. After that it was off for the hot stuff! PJs offer a great combination of self-service and waiter-service, so you really have the best of both worlds with this dining option. The chefs were there to serve the hot food, and there was a wonderful joint of succulent Roast Beef, a Baked Gammon; Pan-fried Sea-Bass; Hallibut on Fennell; a Goat's Cheese Tartlet; and some Chicken among the choices. Portions were as big as you wanted them, and the veggies were all perfectly cooked and presented.
The it was desserts; there was a Chocolate Fountain that nobody could resist - especially when bowls of fresh strawberries and cherries were just waiting to be dipped in. But there were some great cakes, tarts and gateaux also, and I just had to have the tangy Lemon Tart - one of my favourite desserts. There was a huge assortment of Irish Farmhouse Cheeses, but by that stage we really were full, and had to decline and sip a coffee instead.
I was really very impressed with the quality of the food and service, and we both felt that Sunday Brunch was the absoluste best value meal we had enjoyed in a long time. I am not actually sure if it should be called Brunch or Lunch, because you can opt for whichever you are in the mood for. There are choices like Eggs Benedict on the menu also, which are made to order.
If you want a great Sunday meal, head for PJs. The great thing is that you can bring the family, young and old, vegetarians and carnivores. I couldn't imagine anybody not being thrilled with their meal at PJs. Brunch is served from 12 - 3
