THE G HOTEL,Wellpark,Galway.www.theghotel.ie The G Hotel Enquiries Why Stay Here?
When we visited the g hotel recently it was as busy and buzzing as it was when it arrived on the Galway hotel scene years ago. Some months after opening we saw how popular it was with the movers and shakers of Galway city, and when we returned this time we were delighted to see how the hotel had just got better and better and was as popular as ever. Full of Hollywood glamour and luxury it is such a fun place to stay, very unique and hip and just makes you want to put on your best dress and shoes and step out in style! PHILIP TREACY DESIGNWhat did we like best? Well you have to love the dining room chairs, the door handles, the silver phones, the bed-side lights, that swirly black and white carpet in the lounge area. In fact when you turn left from reception you travel through three distinct lounge areas, each with their own amazing style and colour. You experience white and chrome, pink and purple and navy blue. The dining room has not only bright funky chairs, but also soft velvet cocoon-like couches in deep purple. We decided that there is both a very luxurious feel to this hotel, and also a curvy Marilyn Monroe sort of feeling! This feminine elegance comes across in all sorts of ways but perhaps the vivid fresh flowers are most striking. In the hotel lobby huge bowels of purple orchids stand out, and bright orange Birds of Paradise grace the spa area in majestic bowels.ACCOMMODATION AT THE G HOTELBut there were many comfortable and practical aspects of this hotel too. Our bedroom was great, super comfortable bed, sofa, desk, flat-screen television and a spacious area that we immediately settled into. The big power shower in our bathroom was the best, separate bath of course, free broadband in the room, large windows with a view out over Galway Bay, a work desk, fluffy robes, slippers and towels and the coolest toiletries.ESPA AT THE GThe stylish spa is situated on the second floor, just around the corner from our bedroom. We spent a very pleasant hour in the thermal suite where the water pressure jets un-knotted the tension in our shoulders and the heated loungers soothed us into a quiet relaxing state of mind. A full range of treatments are available by appointment for both men and women, and the thermal suite is certainly worth a visit.MATZ AT THE GMatz is renowned as one of Galway’s top restaurants, and since coming to the g hotel, the food has risen to whole new heights. Firstly the fabulously appointed dining room allows for both privacy, people watching and ultimate comfort. We decided to start with a cocktail, the menu was certainly tempting. We opted for a Bikini Martini and a Razmopolitan, one pink and one blue and both the most delicious martinis you could imagine! And so to the food. From a choice of ten starters we opted for Char Grilled Scallops and Home Cured Duck Breast; there were also soups, salads, hand-made pasta and local goat’s cheese dishses. There was a choice from ten main courses, once again covering plenty of options with imaginative flair and we decided on John Dory and local Spring Lamb. Along side the meat and fish options we were impressed with several very tasteful sounding vegetarian creations. Our dishes were flawless and we complimented each mouthful with a delicious bottle of New World Pinot Noir from a pretty extensive wine list.Staying with the food, breakfast the following morning was modern and indulgent, healthy and satisfying. Every taste was catered for with both a buffet and table service. We once again were cocooned in a plush purple banquette. I love the range of fresh fruits, the compotes, the various yoghurts, cereals, meats and cheeses and so many freshly baked pastries. Then the cooked options are above the usual – my Eggs Benedict were fabulous. Our breakfast service was certainly worth mentioning. Our waitress was as pleasant as I have encountered, and she was a real ray of sunshine to everybody she looked after. They really do breakfast exceptionally well at Galway’s g hotel. The hotel itself is situated on a roundabout from where you can head straight out the Dublin road. And that is exactly what we did the following day. Our valet parked car was brought around to the door and we were on the road effortlessly in no time at all. One of the advantages of not being in the centre of the city is that getting out of town is invariably easier than having to negotiate all those one-way streets! The hotel was buzzing when we left, as it was when we arrived. It seems that this very contemporary design hotel appeals right across the board to all ages. It certainly all adds to the colour! We would highly recommend a visit, in a world of bland look-a-like hotels, The G Hotel in Galway makes a striking impression! www.theghotel.ie Add this page to your favorite Social Bookmarking websites |
