Super chic style, great service and totally relaxing. The Ice House in the north-west of Ireland is one of the few hotels that deserves all the awards and accolades heaped upon it.  The reputation had proceeded it, but when we visited recently from first impressions to the parting glance, we were pretty impressed by the experience. Instead of being offered a welcome cup of coffee on arrival, we were given a glass of bubbles – now that’s a classy start! THE ICE HOUSE LOCATION This boutique hotel is situated just outside the town of Ballina right on the River Moy and the initial impression is quite dramatic.  While the area is renowned for salmon fishing, and the river is the life-blood of the region, this hotel adds a new dimension to Ballina.  You are immediately struck by the dramatic juxtaposition of traditional and contemporary themes. From the reception area you go straight into a traditionally elegant drawing room and from there into a bright modern ‘glass box’ which in turn leads to the stairs down to the spa area and restaurant.  Most of the rooms enjoy full views of the river with the swans, ducks and several types of river birds all enjoying the water.  If you are lucky you might even spot the seals splashing about. << Start < Prev 1 2 Next > End >>
