- Stunning lakeside location
- Large luxurious suites
- Exquisite Cuisine
Donegal is one of the beautiful parts of Ireland, and we love to head up to enjoy its rugged beauty and friendly people. We were delighted on the last visit to stay in harvey's Point, where the location, food, style and service really impressed us. While it is very near to Donegal town, the setting is stunning and it is rather like being in a postcard!
ACCOMMODATION AT HARVEY'S POINT
The suites at Harvey’s Point Hotel in Donegal are among the largest and most luxurious in the whole of Ireland. There is a choice of Executive, Deluxe Premium and Penthouse Suites, all designed to five star standard, and all being more spacious than you could imagine. We stayed in a Penthouse Suite recently, and were enthralled with the luxury and attention to detail. A few of the best bits – double Jacuzzi bath with television (!), large private bar, separate dressing room, king size four-poster antique bed, 36” flat screen television in lounge, another television in bedroom, fabulous power-shower, great toiletries, lovely linen, very tasteful furnishings, wonderful views and great chocolates at turn-down service!
Other features that make this hotel special include the resident’s lounge complete with the days papers, monthly magazines, comfy chairs, piano, and plenty of other reading material. And of course the stunning view is ever present with lots of windows to bring the outside in. A small room with complementary Internet access for guests always available, as well as free wireless service.
People in Donegal have a habit of saying “Up here its different”, and that is something that we did experience when we visited. For a start, the locals are that bit friendlier, and the prices are certainly cheaper than most other parts of Ireland.
There is also some of the most unspoilt scenery in the country. Nestling on the edge of shimmering Lough Eske, beneath the majesty of the Blue Stack Mountains, this hotel is situated in some of the best. We took long walks and watched the resident swans gliding across the lake with their five new signets.
DINING AT HARVEY'S POINT
It was interesting to learn that before these new suites were built, Harveys Point was really a restaurant with rooms. The original courtyard rooms, although more modest in size and lavish comfort, are still in demand. But the food at Harveys Point remains a bit of an icon in the area. We had a really sumptuous dinner, with perfect service and of course the ever-present views made it a really special dining experience. We enjoyed Scallops and Foie Gras for our starters; a beautiful Saddle of Rabbit and a succulent Black Angeus steak; and for desserts we had a Spiced Plum Crumble and a Coconut Tart. This was food for the Gods! The service and ambiance and of course that stunning view all made it a memorable dining experience. This place is a dream for romantics, the seclusion and beauty is quite inspiring. We would be interested in hearing about any other hotel in Ireland that offers the same spacious luxury, fabulous food, friendly service and all at an affordable price. If you know of one, do tell us about it. Gems like these should not remain hidden. Family owned hotels of this calibre is what excellent Irish hospitality is all about.
