  • Stunning lakeside location
  • Large luxurious suites
  • Exquisite Cuisine

The new suites at Harvey’s Point Hotel in Donegal are without doubt the largest and most luxurious in the whole of Ireland. The new wing includes Executive, Deluxe Premium and Penthouse Suites, all designed to five star standard, and all being more spacious than you could imagine.

We stayed in a Penthouse Suite recently, and were enthralled with the luxury and attention to detail. A few of the best bits – double Jacuzzi bath with television (!), large private bar, separate dressing room, king size four-poster antique bed, 36” flat screen television in lounge, another television in bedroom, fabulous power-shower, great toiletries, lovely linen, very tasteful furnishings, wonderful views and great chocolates at turn-down service!
All this and more made up our visit, and prompted us to put Harveys Point in a category of it’s own – our favourite luxury hotel.

Other features that make this hotel special include the resident’s lounge complete with the days papers, monthly magazines, comfy chairs, piano, and plenty of other reading material. And of course the stunning view is ever present with lots of windows to bring the outside in. A small room with complementary Internet access for guests always available, as well as free wireless service.

People in Donegal have a habit of saying “Up here its different”, and that is something that we did experience when we visited. For a start, the locals are that bit friendlier, and the prices are certainly cheaper than most other parts of Ireland.

There is also some of the most unspoilt scenery in the country. Nestling on the edge of shimmering Lough Eske, beneath the majesty of the Blue Stack Mountains, this hotel is situated in some of the best. We took long walks and watched the resident swans gliding across the lake with their five new signets.
It was interesting to learn that before these new suites were built, Harveys Point was really a restaurant with rooms.

The original courtyard rooms, although more modest in size and lavish comfort, are still in demand. But the food at Harveys Point remains a bit of an icon in the area. We had a really sumptuous dinner, with perfect service and of course the ever-present views made it a really special dining experience. This place is a dream for romantics, the seclusion and beauty is quite inspiring.
We would be interested in hearing about any other hotel in Ireland that offers the same spacious luxury, fabulous food, friendly service and all at an affordable price. If you know of one, do tell us about it. Gems like these should not remain hidden. Family owned hotels of this calibre is what excellent Irish hospitality is all about.
