- Great city location, we could walk everywhere.
- It’s trendy, friendly, hip and historical.
- We had the best bedroom in the city!
When it comes to Belfast city hotels, Europa Hotel is probably our favourite. With a unique history and heritage – it is the most friendly, convenient and comfortable hotel you could wish for. Don’t just take our word for it – Terry Wogan always stays there, top sport’s people choose it, and Bill and Hillary Clinton loved it!
It is not just top personalities and politicians from around the world who love it, it is a firm favourite with visitors from the south of Ireland who come to Belfast city for the concerts, culture, craic and of course the superb shopping!
ACCOMMODATION AT EUROPA HOTEL
All the bedrooms are of a great standard, we stayed before and had a lovely room, but this time we stayed in the fabulous Clinton Suite and it was such a treat! All soft silver hues, circular style, contemporary design, gentle lighting, comfort and elegance. There was a super lounge area, with a large glass table and four chairs, flat screen television, plush couch, top-of-the-range sound system and some very stylish object d’art making it somewhere we wanted to move into! And the bedroom – no detail spared in comfort and convenience with plenty of storage space and huge deluxe bed and views out over Great Victoria Street. The bathroom contained separate bath and shower, robes and fluffy towels, magnified make-up mirror and even a rubber duck on the bath! We were warm and cosy with complimentary drinking water, tea/coffee and cookies and a fabulous view over the city.THE CLINTON CONNECTION
We were fascinated at a photograph and letter from Bill Clinton on the wall of our room. The letter was sent marking The Europa Hotel’s 30th anniversary in 2002. In it the US ex-president commented “Surviving 30 years of constant challenge, the Europa stands today as a living reminder of an extraordinary future”. He went on to say “Ireland has always held a special place in my heart.” It was a real thrill to know that so many famous people from all over the world had stayed at this hotel over the years.THE CAUSERIE RESTAURANT
Having left our car in the secure car park behind the hotel and checked into our room, we headed for the Causerie for a spot of lunch. With a window table and a big appetite having just driven up from Dublin, we were ready to visit the menu. There were seven starters, twelve mains, six desserts and a selection of wines by the bottle, half-bottle and glass. We decided to share a prawn cocktail which was tasty and generously portioned and came with some lovely moist Guinness bread. We then chose a beef burger with hand-cut chips, and a salmon fillet with champ. We shared a green salad and it was thoroughly delicious. Other menu choices included Spiced Meatballs; Roast Chicken; Turkey & Ham; Ravioli and Thai Chicken Curry among other dishes. Starters included Caesar Salad; Confit of Duck; tarts, soups and savoury bruschetta. Plenty of choice and all very well priced for good portions. Finishing with a coffee, we were set up to hit the shops.DINING AT THE PIANO BAR
Situated on the first floor of the hotel, The Piano Bar is modern and spacious and affords good city views. It is well appointed with privacy for diners without being isolated. We were brought good bread, olive oil and olives to start while we sipped a martini and studied the menu. Once again we had good choices – six starters, six mains and six desserts. I was tempted by the Lobster & Tiger Prawn Cocktail, but opted for the Carpaccio of Seabass with a zesty pink grapefruit salad. This was very good indeed. Our other starter was a warm goat’s cheese and tomato tower with Waldorf Salad – again well balanced and light – perfect starters. I stayed with a citrus dish with my Seared Monkfish, Fiesta Salsa and Citrus Cream while our other main course was a peppery rib-eye of beef with Irish whisky cream sauce. We managed to balance these dishes with a Lake Chalice Pinot Noir from Marlborough. Desserts were too tempting to resist, so we enjoyed a zingy lemon tart and a fabulously large cheese plate.Service was great, ambiance was lovely and we enjoyed a great meal at The Piano Bar Restaurant.
The Europa Hotel is certainly one of Belfast’s top hotels. We loved it and would highly recommend it as a base for visiting the city. Situated right beside the Grand Opera House, and close to the Odyssey and Waterfront, it is ideal for concert-goers. Like President Clinton who chose it for his visit in 1995 and returned again in 1998, we too will choose this hotel for our next visit to Belfast.
