  • Ireland’s favourite Resort Hotel
  • Superb food from award winning restaurants
  • Very friendly staff and great team-work.

Rosslare, nestled in the sunny south-east of Ireland has been a favourite holiday destination for the Irish people for years. And indeed Kelly’s Resort Hotel is something of an institution at this stage, consistently proving a hit with each new generation. It has gained the reputation of being the hotel that other hoteliers liked to visit. And now we know why.

Driving from different parts of the country, we met at the hotel and had a lovely large twin-bedded room overlooking the gardens and the sea. At the hotel there was so much to enjoy that we were not sure where to start! We could choose from badminton, bowls, croquet, table tennis, crazy golf, jogging track, snooker room, card room, children’s play area, two swimming pools, and of course the fabulous spa – SEASPA. There is a lovely relaxed atmosphere at the hotel we felt, and while very professional it is not at all pompous or intimidating. This is certainly to do with the unique family connection.
The present owner Bill Kelly is the fourth generation Kelly to run the hotel, and his family have been to the forefront of the Irish hospitality industry since 1895. He has overseen a range of developments in the last number of years including the creation of the spa and the modernisation of all the bedrooms. Bill has a keen interest in wine and they have their own range of imported wines. We learnt that Bill’s wife Isabelle Avril is the daughter of leading French wine-maker Paul Avril, from Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

DINING AT KELLYS

For the guest the food and wine are certainly stars at this hotel. We had the most heavenly dinner in Beaches restaurant, where food, wine and service were superb. I am not at all surprised that they have won so many awards for their food. Everything was succulent and beautifully cooked and flavoured and it is astounding that with so many covers each plate comes out of the kitchen just perfect. While we were delighted with our lamb and brill, we could see diners at all the other tables enjoying a wide range of great dishes. We both agreed that this was certainly one of the best hotel restaurants we had come across.
We had breakfast there the next morning, and it was really lovely. In fact before leaving, I had a little late lunch in the other restaurant, La Marine, and that was very good too, friendly and bistro-style and great food. So with all that eating I should have been doing a bit of running on the beach, or working out or at least swimming or golf, but instead I opted for checking out the spa!

THE SPA AT KELLYS

We both lazed around the thermal suite for an hour before I went off for a fabulous massage. SEASPA has everything a real spa should have, a full range of treatments and plenty of treatment rooms and most of all a feeling of peace and serenity! I enjoyed the feeling of being cocooned in this spa while the wintery winds raged outside!

I would love to come back to Kelly’s in the summertime and use that neat little beach and perhaps do more outdoor activities. Meanwhile I have great memories of a visit that included the friendliest service, fullest activities, loveliest location and truly great food and wine.
What’s to do in the area?

There is so much to do at this hotel which started off life as a modest seaside tea room back in 1893. All the activities mentioned are available, programmes for children, music and dancing in the evenings, competitions and games. There is a supervised crèche, outdoor play area and entertainment room.
A programme of events and activities is posted on the notice board of the Aqua Club each day.

Throughout the year the hotel offers a choice of interesting informative and exciting activity and specific theme breaks. The include Wine Appreciation & Tastings; Cookery Demonstrations; Gardening Workshops; Ballroom Dancing; Health & Beauty Clinics; and Painting workshops. These are very popular in the winter months, and booking in advance is essential.
Off –site there is plenty happening in Rosslare including golf, fishing and windsurfing and horse riding.

First the golf – Each year Kelly’s Resort Hotel organize a 36-hole competition played at Rosslare Golf Club and St Helen’s Bay Golf Club. There are numerous golf courses located in Wexford and the surrounding area, including Rosslare Golf Club, St Helen’s Bay Golf & Country Club, Wexford Golf Club and several others are within easy access.

The village of Rosslare itself has been a popular holiday resort for over 1,000 years and people have been holidaying there for generations. There is a new water sports centre where visitors can learn to windsurf and sail. A new all weather lawn Bowling Green has also been developed.
