  • Best bedrooms in the city.
  • Super service and friendliness.
  • The wonderful Ritz-Carlton Club!

We were so fortunate on our latest visit to the Big Apple to stay in one of city’s most wonderful hotels. During our two night stay there we enjoyed food, service and comfort that were second-to-none. For a real taste of New York luxury and friendliness together with a truly magical location, it would be very hard to beat the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Battery Park, downtown Manhattan.

ACCOMMODATION AT RITZ-CARLTON

Of all the bedrooms in all the world’s hotels, this one has to top our list! We had both city and harbour views, and a telescope that pointed directly at the Statue of Liberty who proudly held her torch aloft just beyond our window! At night time particularly, when all lit up, the sight was awesome! We had a deluxe super-comfortable bed, large bathroom with roomy power shower and separate bath and every accessory including a bath pillow. Robes, slippers and even pyjamas were provided, and all the towels and toiletries we could want. Our separate living area was linked to the bedroom by a dressing area with lots of clothes space and mirrors. We even had a separate toilet in the living room. We had a fridge, a desk and lots of comfortable furniture, and I suspect enjoyed more space than many a Manhattan apartment!

THE RITZ-CARLTON CLUB

We had access to the Club Lounge on the 11th floor throughout our stay, and we enjoyed superb service there and found their ‘Light Culinary Presentations’ more than adequate to fortify us for the rigorous shopping expeditions that we undertook during our stay.

Breakfast was the best, lots of fresh fruit and yoghurt, smoothies and pastries, cheeses and cold meats and assorted breads, juices and hot drinks. It was a wonderful start to the day. There were lovely imaginative wraps and sandwiches available throughout the day, and cocktails, hors d’ouvres and lots of tasty desserts available in the evening. All of this was regularly accompanied with a glass or two of champagne. This was sustenance that was perfect for our shopping outings!

There was a laptop available with high speed internet access, and it was just great to check out what was happening in the rest of the world while sipping a glass of bubbly in this exclusive sanctuary of comfort.

LOCATION OF RITZ-CARLTON BATTERY PARK

We reached the hotel easily from JFK Airport by taxi in 40 minutes. The hotel is adjacent to the park itself, which is lovely for a jog in the morning. The boats leave regularly from the harbour beside the park for Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty tours.

We walked easily along Broadway up to Soho, a great shopping area, and took a subway to Chinatown for a taste of the orient on Sunday morning! In the evening we caught a cab uptown to taste the nightlife, including a visit to the famous Buddha Bar – www.buddhabarnyc.com

The location of this hotel suited us perfectly as there was so much to do in the immediate area and all the attractions of this great city were easily accessible. We thoroughly loved our visit and would give the Ritz-Carlton New York Battery Park our highest recommendation!
What’s to do in the Area?

Where to begin with what to do when in Manhattan?
The first port of call would be to chat to the friendly Concierge at the hotel, and they will provide you with all the maps and information you might require. They will also look up information on anything you want to find out about. You can book tickets to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island which leave from the pier opposite the hotel. Don’t forget to visit the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building. Check out www.statuecruises.com for information on cruises that depart from just adjacent to the hotel. Also check out www.circlelinedowntown.com
Without leaving the building, you can enjoy a breathtaking sunset and award-winning cocktails from Rise, the hotel’s 14th floor bar and terrace. There is also a fabulous Spa at the hotel, New York’s only Prada Beauty Spa. For details on all cultural events, shows, shopping, maps and everything you might want to find out about, check out www.cityguideny.com
There are two great museums nearby that again the Concierge can tell you about, one dedicated to the Holocaust and the other to the native American Indians. The hotel is also located near to the Ground Zero site which is situated by the Financial District and Wall Street.
You can catch a cab from outside the hotel to any part of the city, and there is also a subway close by.

If you are visiting this summer, there is a monumental man-made waterfalls display happening from July to October. The project is commissioned by the Public art Fund and consists of four monumental, man-made waterfalls installed at four sites along the shores of Brooklyn, Manhattan and Governors Island. The 90 to 120 foot installations have been designed to protect water quality and will be lit after sunset adding a striking element to New York City’s iconic skyline. The New York City Waterfalls is by Olafur Eliasson in collaboration with the City of New York Summer 2008.
