What’s To Do In The Area?

Golf – Westport boasts its very own 18-hole championship golf course on the shores of Clew Bay and in the shadow of Croagh Patrick. Clew Bay 9 hole golf course is par 35 and is set in very scenic surroundings. There are also 18 hole golf courses situated in Ballinrobe, Ballina, Rosses Point, Clifden, Belmullet and Enniscrone.

Fishing – Co Mayo is often described as a game angler’s paradise. It also offers top class sea angling with some limited coarse fishing also available. Trout & Salmon fishing is available at a wide range of local rivers and lakes. Mayo’s largest lake, Cough Conn is one of the country’s best brown trout fisheries. Lough Mask, Carramore and Beltra in Newport are also good fishing destinations.
Horse-riding, sailing, hill-walking and hiking are also available locally.

Island Hopping – Clew Bay is said to have an island for every day of the year. Clare Island Ferry Service can allow you to discover much of Ireland’s history and pre-history. Westport is one of Ireland’s most attractive towns with lovely shops and bars. There are also a number of museums in the area. The National Museum of Ireland now has its first ever branch in Castlebar, The Museum of Country Life, which is situated in the village of Turlough. Knock Shrine and the Michael Davitt Museum are also close by. There are also three Art galleries nearby – The Custom Studios in Westport; The Turlough Museum in Castlebar; Foxford Woolen mills in Foxford.
Achill Island is Ireland’s largest offshore Island and is joined by bridge to the mainland. The island possesses some of the most spectacular cliff faces in Europe. There are five Blue Flag beaches on the Island.
