  • Historic elegance and contemporary style.
  • Luxury ambiance and superb cuisine.
  • Acres of gardens and world-class golf.

The fairytale splendour of Adare Manor struck us as soon as we drove up through the magnificent gardens. Built during the Irish famine, surrounded by 840 acres of grounds and nestled in the pretty village of Adare outside Limerick, we had always wanted to visit this wonderful manor house.

Accommodation at Adare Manor

Warmly greeted on arrival by Head Doorman John Greville, we were made feel immediately welcome and we enjoyed a quick look around the building before settling into our superb bedroom. A big bay-window area gave us a bright corner to enjoy some tea and to look out over the magnificently manicured French gardens below. We were told that Bill Clinton had stayed in this fabulous Dunraven Stateroom, which made us feel rather special! But most special of all was the huge marble bathroom, complete with large fireplace, separate bath and shower, twin wash-hand-basins, lots of fluffy towels and robes and toiletries and mirrors. Of course we also enjoyed all mod-cons in our room including wireless broadband, multi-channel television and even a selection of DVDs.

Dining at Adare Manor

Of all the dinners in all the wonderful hotels we have enjoyed throughout Ireland, without doubt our dinner at Adare Manor was among the most memorable. Service was superb in The Oak Room Restaurant and the food prepared by Head Chef Mark Donohue was nothing short of heavenly. My trio of Yellow Fin Tuna done three ways was perfection on a plate. The award winning pistachio coated loin of lamb and the succulent beef were real winners. The menu read like a gourmet tour, and we wanted to visit each of the dishes, however hard choices had to be made. I can only say that I look forward to another visit to Adare Manor Hotel, if only to indulge once more in that wonderful cuisine.

Mind you there are plenty of other reasons to return to this renowned manor house. The Spa at Adare Manor offers a host of luxury health and beauty treatments and is located overlooking the wonderful gardens. We took a walk through those gardens before breakfast the next morning, and even stood for a while under the magnificent Cedar of Lebanon tree which is over 300 years old. Other beautiful mature trees on the estate include 180 year old Beeches, Monkey Puzzles, Cork, Aspen and Flowering Cherry. These gardens would be the envy of any new luxury hotel developer!

The character and unique design of Adare Manor even include 52 chimneys, one for each week of the year. Then there are the 365 leaded glass windows, one for each day of the year! There is so much to enjoy and experience at this fabulous property, undoubtedly one of Ireland’s finest, that one stay begs a return visit.
What’s to do in the Area?

Renowned throughout the golfing world, the 18 hole championship golf course measures 7,453 yards and uses 230 acres of the 840 acre estate. This was the last major golf course designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Senior and has achieved international acclaim as one of his finest creations.

The centuries old Carriage House is now home to Adare Manor Golf Clubhouse. The facility boasts private and main dining rooms, bar, pro shop, locker rooms, driving range, putting green and a membership office.

Adare Manor is home to the Irish Open for 2007, 2008 and 2009. See www.irishopenatadaremanor.com for details.

Excellent fishing is available on the River Maigue which meanders throughout the grounds of the Manor and yields plumb brown trout catches each year. Fish caught on the river will be prepared for you in the hotel kitchen.

A map of the grounds is available from the hotel and some of the sights on the estate worth seeing include the Franciscan Friary; The Dunraven Families Pet Cemetery; the Ogham Stones; the Beach Walk; The Ice House and the Parterre Gardens.

There are numerous places of interest to visit outside of the estate and the staff at the hotel will be happy to assist you. These include the picturesque village of Adare with its little shops and restaurants, thatched cottages and Heritage Centre.

Trinitarian Abbey founded around 1230 by the Fitzgerald’s; the Augustinian Priory founded in 1315 and the Franciscan Priory founded in 1464 are all well worth visiting.
Bunratty Castle & Folk Par built in 1425 is located just 30 minutes drive from Adare Manor.
